Summer holiday had a wonderful opportunity to talk with Justin Pamplin. Also known as Deena Demarco Bouvier. Denna has been doing drag for 4 years starting in 2004 and on and off appearances from there on out.

I asked what does Drag Mean to you?
Denna- “I have done Drag for Show and I have done it for Pageants. Drag is about being that someone who you are not, creating a new person inside you and having fun with it. Drag life is about pleasing the crowd and Pageants are about competition and pleasing the judges.”

How long does it take you to get into drag?
“Well there is two Different times to that as well. I can paint my face in one hour and with pageant face it takes much longer because I want to look my best. All I can say is drag is an art and the longer you take looking in the mirror the more you will change your look. Just do it then leave it alone."

What persona do you give off?
“I am a well put classy lady, in other terms (Rich Fish)
Humble, Professional and Lady-esk”

“I have had sixteen wins and four of those were Appointed meaning, being asked to come and represent the Prelims. Best understanding is being handed to you by the Promoter.”

After clamming Titles for yourself, where did you go from there?
“Pending on the Title and what it asked of I would have to step down for the next year. I used it as a stepping stone to my nest and biggest thing”

“Two ways to escape from reality. I spent way more than I made on drag. I learned to Separate my drag life from my normal life. If you don’t then that’s when your positives turn to negatives ”

If and when you have an Autobiography, what would it be called?
“A Crazy Ride” What’s the most outrageous thing you have ever done? “I turned Tranny for one year, lived ate and breathed as a tranny and thought I was (Fish). I don’t regret any of it, but cant believe I did it. I was what people called Bad Tranny like B-Scott. I thought I was Diana Ross.”

What is your signature beverage of choice?
“Cranberry and Vodka because you cant go wrong with it.”

What song should be played when you walk in the room?
“No hesitation! Opening of Act 2 from Dream Girls the Dream Medly by Dena Jones.”

Who are the people in your life who have helped you mold your image?
“My Mother! As cliché as it may sound she is everything a woman is, Glam, 100% Gorgeous! I also molded my image off of 3 Drag Entertainers
Victoria La Page…. for the Glam
Nichole Luv Dupree…… for Actress and Lip-sync
Candis Cayne………….for 1950’s style dance”

Do you think you get beauty or brains or both?
“Both no doubt”

Any closing words of advice you would love to give to inspiring Drag Queens?
“Do a pageant! If not help someone do one. It will help you and boost you 110%.”

I would love to thank Justin for being apart of this interview and for being such a great friend. Twila and I would love to hear more about your life over brunch or dinner sometime soon.
